Hosta 'Cathedral Windows' is a large, fragrant, and sun-tolerant tetraploid sport of 'Stained Glass'. It features, broad, heart-shaped, golden-yellow leaves with a thick, dark green margin, typically reaching 20-22 inches tall and spreading 3 feet wide. It produces large, near-white, fragrant flowers on 40-inch scapes in late summer.
Key Characteristics and Care:
- Foliage: Leaves are thick,, corrugated, and become dome-shaped as they mature, enhancing slug resistance. The yellow color is brighter than 'Stained Glass'.
- Size: Large perennial, with a mature height of 18–22 inches and a spread of 24–36 inches.
- Light Requirements: Thrives in partial shade to shade, but can tolerate, and often prefers, some morning sun to intensify the gold leaf color.
- Flowering: Produces large, very fragrant white flowers in late summer, often attracting hummingbirds.
- Growth: Vigorous and fast-growing, making it excellent for shade gardens.
- Zones: Hardy in USDA Zones 3a to 9b.
- Maintenance: Low-maintenance, needing only removal of dead foliage in late autumn or spring.
