Even Better Hosta

The Hosta 'Even Better' is a vibrant, glossy yellow hosta cultivar known for its bright foliage and fragrant flowers. It is a sport (genetic mutation) of the popular 'Twice as Nice' hosta variety, amplifying its best qualities. 

Key Characteristics

• Foliage: The leaves are a bright, very shiny chartreuse-yellow, described as almost "rubbery" and gently undulating (wavy). This glossy sheen makes the plant appear luminous in lightly shaded to partly sunny garden spaces.
• Flowers: In late summer, it produces tall scapes of large, fragrant, near-white flowers, which add an elegant touch and perfume the evening air.
• Size: It is considered a medium to large size hosta.
• Origin: The variety was introduced by Bob Solberg and is part of his 2026 collection. 

Growing Conditions

• Light: The Hosta 'Even Better' thrives in light shade to part sun conditions. Like other yellow hostas, it benefits from a few hours of morning sun to develop its best color. Intense mid-day or afternoon sun should be avoided in warmer climates to prevent leaf scorch.
• Soil: It prefers rich, moist, well-drained soil with a high organic matter content.
• Watering: Consistent moisture is important, especially during the first growing season. Once established, watering about once a week is usually sufficient, but more may be needed in hot, dry weather or if planted under trees.
• Hardiness Zone: This hosta is hardy in USDA zones 3 to 9.
