First Frost Hosta

'First Frost' hosta is an award-winning, shade-loving perennial (2010 Hosta of the Year) known for its thick, slug-resistant blue-green leaves with margins that transition from gold in spring to creamy white by summer. It matures to roughly 16 inches tall and 30–36 inches wide, requiring moist, well-drained soil and part to full shade.

• Appearance: Heart-shaped leaves with intense blue centers and yellow/white margins.
• Flowers: Light lavender, funnel-shaped flowers appear in midsummer on 28-inch scapes.
• Planting: Best planted in spring or fall, spacing plants 18–36 inches apart.
• Light/Soil: Thrives in dappled light or morning sun; prefers moist, well-drained, nutrient-rich soil.
• Maintenance: Low maintenance; can be trimmed in late fall when leaves turn yellow or start to get slimy.
