The 'Red Rover' coral bell is botanically known as Heucherella 'Red Rover' (a hybrid of Heuchera and Tiarella). This perennial is prized for its attractive, coppery red, deeply lobed foliage that mellows to olive green in summer.

Plant Characteristics and Care

  • Foliage: The deeply lobed, finger-like leaves are coppery red with a burgundy red center in spring, turning to an olive green in summer.
  • Flowers: It produces creamy white, bottlebrush-like flowers on tall, 28-34 inch scapes in late spring.
  • Light Requirements: It is versatile and performs well in sun, partial shade, or full shade conditions.
  • Soil: It thrives in humus-rich, well-drained soil. Good drainage is especially important in shaded areas.
  • Maintenance: It is a low-maintenance plant. In early spring, clean up old foliage, and after flowering, cut back the entire flower stalk to encourage more leaf growth.
  • Wildlife: It is deer-resistant and attracts pollinators such as bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.
