The Hosta 'Scheherazade' is a medium-sized hosta variety known for its distinctive, intense blue, lance-shaped leaves and resistance to slugs. It was registered by Jim and Meg Dalton in 2012.
Key Characteristics
Foliage: The leaves are narrow, pointed, intensely blue-green, and have a glaucous (powdery) surface when they emerge in the spring. They feature deeply impressed veins which add a unique texture. The color is maintained well throughout the season, fading to a shiny green base later in the summer.
Size: It forms a flat, starburst-like mound, typically maturing to about 16 inches (40 cm) in height and 30 inches (75 cm) in width.
Flowers: The plant produces graceful scapes of pale lavender, tubular flowers that bloom from July into August. The flowers are fertile and set seeds.
Growth Habit: It is described as a vigorous and moderately fast grower that forms a neat, tidy clump.
Conditions: It thrives in part shade to shade, with filtered sun being ideal for maintaining its best color contrast. It prefers moist, humus-rich soil and is relatively slug-resistant due to its thick leaves. It is hardy in USDA zones 3-9.
