Snicker's Surprize Hosta

Snickers Surprise Hosta (registered by Jeff Moore) is a medium-sized, variegated perennial prized for its thick, slug-resistant foliage and striking blue-and-yellow color pattern.

Physical Characteristics

• Foliage: Broadly ovate, thick leaves featuring a blue center and wide, irregular gold-to-chartreuse margins.
• Mature Size: Typically grows to approximately 20 inches tall and 40 inches wide.
• Flowers: Produces lavender blooms in June on upright scapes. 
  

Ideal Growing Conditions

• Light: Partial to full shade. Morning sun is often tolerable and can help brighten the yellow margins, but hot afternoon sun should be avoided.
• Soil: Prefers rich, moist, and well-drained soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH (6.0–7.2).
• Hardiness: Suitable for USDA Hardiness Zones 3 through 9. 
  

Care and Maintenance

• Watering: Requires regular, moderate watering to keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.
• Mulching: A 1- to 2-inch layer of organic mulch helps retain moisture and suppress weeds, though it should be kept away from the plant's crown to prevent rot.
• Pest Control: Its thick leaves offer better resistance to slugs and snails than thinner-leaved varieties, though standard monitoring is still recommended.
