Sugar Cookie Hosta

The 'SUGAR COOKIE' hosta is a small to medium-sized variegated perennial known for its green leaves with yellow (maturing to white) margins, held on distinctive purple or red petioles. It is a sport of the Hosta 'Sugar Plum' and is popular for borders and containers. 

Description and Appearance
 
Leaves: Feature a green center with an initially yellow, ruffled margin that brightens to a cream or white as the summer progresses. The leaves have a good substance and an upright habit.

Petioles: A standout feature is the strong, purple or red petioles (leaf stalks) that contrast beautifully with the leaves and are visible due to the plant's growth habit.

Flowers: The plant produces pale purple flowers in late summer. 

Size and Growing Conditions

Mature Size: It typically forms a mound around 20 inches tall and 28 inches wide.

Hardiness Zones: It is cold-hardy in USDA zones 3 to 9.

Light Requirements: It thrives in partial, filtered shade or morning sun, which helps maintain the best color; avoid harsh mid-day sun to prevent leaf burn.

Soil and Fertilizer: It requires a steady nutrient supply and performs well in moist, well-prepared soil. A slow-release fertilizer can be applied in early spring.
